The checker reads history, not weather. Every river page opens with the safety notes that matter more than any number here — cold water, PFDs, and the local knowledge no dataset has.

Can this forecast what the river will be doing on my dates?
No, and nothing honest can at week-plus range. What it shows is the historical record for that week of the year: the typical level, the range most years fall in, and how often past years ran above or below a given flow. History is a strong prior — it's how outfitters think about seasons — but weather gets the final word.
What counts as “the week” I picked?
The seven days centered on your date. Each of those calendar days carries its own decades-long history at the gauge; the checker pools them so one quirky date doesn't skew the picture.
Why compare today's reading with my trip week?
Because it answers the question you're really asking: is the river currently ahead of or behind where it usually is for my dates? A reading above your week's 80th percentile today, weeks early, often means fed-by-snowmelt or recent rain — worth watching as the trip approaches.
